Saving Grace by Jane Green

Saving Grace by Jane Green
Published by St. Martin's Press on December 30, 2014

Summary: "Grace and Ted Chapman are widely regarded as the perfect literary power couple. Ted is a successful novelist and Grace, his wife of twenty years, is beautiful, stylish, carefree, and a wonderful homemaker. But what no one sees, what is churning under the surface, is Ted’s rages. His mood swings. And the precarious house of cards that their lifestyle is built upon. When Ted’s longtime assistant and mainstay leaves, the house of cards begins to crumble and Grace, with dark secrets in her past, is most vulnerable. She finds herself in need of help but with no one to turn to…until the perfect new assistant shows up out of the blue.  To the rescue comes Beth, a competent young woman who can handle Ted and has the calm efficiency to weather the storms that threaten to engulf the Chapman household. Soon, though, it’s clear to Grace that Beth might be too good to be true. This new interloper might be the biggest threat of all, one that could cost Grace her marriage, her reputation, and even her sanity.  With everything at stake and no one to confide in, Grace must find a way to save herself before it is too late." --From Goodreads

What I Loved:
The emotion.  Jane Green crafted a story about one woman getting replaced in her own life, and I loved the emotions along with it.  I found the story to be realistic.  I liked Grace's journey as she went from being a writer's wife to finding out what she really wanted to be happy in her own life.

What I Disliked:
Grace at the end.  I really disliked how she wavered between Ted (her husband) and Patrick (a childhood friend).  Ted was borderline abusive and Patrick was just wonderful.  I'm glad things finally ended up the way that they did.

Overall, this was a pretty solid Jane Green book.  In all of the books that I've read by her, this is not my favorite.  I do like the concept of the book though.

Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Fairest by Marissa Meyer
Lunar Chronicles prequel
Published by Feiwel & Friends on January 27, 2015

Summary:

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.
--From Goodreads.

Really, I went into this book knowing that I would love this book because I love the entire series so much.  I was not disappointed!  Without going into too much detail, I will say that Queen Levana is a stone cold beotch.  I kept waiting for her to feel something, but that never came.  I'm really glad that the readers got to see into the mind of Queen Levana, and this book makes me even more excited for Winter coming out in November.

Overall, this was a great book.  I would recommend reading Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Fairest, and then Winter.  There are some spoilers and hidden gems in Fairest that wouldn't be understood without reading the first three books.

Disclosure: I purchased my own copy.
