[May 2016] What I'm Watching

While packing and dealing with all of the other random stuff that comes with buying a house, the Boyfriend and I found another show.  We're currently binge watching this as much as we can.

I heard great things about this show when it first started, and I can say I have not been disappointed.  Of course, with anything that's Marvel related you are going to have violence.  I can say that this violence is not gratuitous.  It is mostly hand-to-hand combat which I appreciate, because each party has equal stake in the fight.  Daredevil is also not invincible.  For most of the first season he wore black pants and a black shirt, with no protective armor at all.  He definitely gets his fair share of cuts and bruises.

I can't wait to see where Netflix and Marvel are going to take this show in subsequent seasons!

Waiting on Wednesday: Tough Luck Hero

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which shines a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.  This week, my pick is:

Tough Luck Hero by Maisey Yates
Publisher: HQN Books
Date: June 18, 2016
Copper Ridge #5

"Ranching heir Colton West knew his wedding would be the talk of the town. But he didn't expect to get left at the altar—or to escape on the next flight to Vegas with Lydia Carpenter, the woman who gets under his skin like no one else. The only thing crazier than honeymooning with Lydia is waking up married to her. So why does he find himself entertaining his new wife's desire to stay married—and fantasizing about a real wedding night?

As Copper Ridge's prospective mayor, Lydia can't risk a divorce scandal so close to election time. But pretending to be blissfully in love with her new husband is more confusing than she'd thought. For a man who's always rubbed her the wrong way, Colton suddenly seems to know exactly what to do with his hands. And his lips. Now Lydia's wildest mistake could turn out to be her luckiest move, if they're both willing to take the ultimate gamble…" -- From Goodreads

I love when a romance author writes a lot of books set in the same town.  It's like we get to revisit old friends.  That said, I love Maisey Yates' series.  How can you go wrong with cowboys?

Please Stand By...

In case you haven't noticed, my posting has become sporadic lately.  The next couple of months are going to be crazy busy.  The boyfriend and I bought a house!

I'm really really really excited!  I can now start moving forward with all of the to do lists I've been planning.  I'll also share some pictures when we finally move in.

So what does that mean for this blog?
I'm still going to post, but I'm throwing my schedule out the window.  All I know is that audiobooks are going to be my best friend for the next two months.

The kittens sure love boxes.

Waiting on Wednesday: First Comes Love

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which shines a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.  This week, my pick is:

First Comes Love by Emily Giffin
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Date: June 28. 2016

"Best friends since they were kids, Grayson, Mike, and Ian were hoping for another epic summer on “The Locks”, filled with clam bakes, bonfires, and late-night swims in the ocean.

But that was before Ian’s dad never returned home from his last deployment. Before Mike had to take on more responsibility in order to help provide for his family. Before Grayson’s accident left him with an injured throwing arm and an uncertain future.

It’s clear this summer on the island is shaping up to be very different from those Grayson, Mike, and Ian have come to rely on. And when the sacred code of dating a friend’s sister or ex is broken, it will push their friendship to the absolute limit, testing their loyalties in a way that could either break them—or save them." -- From Goodreads

I love all of Emily Giffin's books.  She writes about best friends, and that is really refreshing.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
Published by Tor Teen in January 2016

"In a continent on the edge of war, two witches hold its fate in their hands.

Young witches Safiya and Iseult have a habit of finding trouble. After clashing with a powerful Guildmaster and his ruthless Bloodwitch bodyguard, the friends are forced to flee their home.

Safi must avoid capture at all costs as she's a rare Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lies. Many would kill for her magic, so Safi must keep it hidden - lest she be used in the struggle between empires. And Iseult's true powers are hidden even from herself.

In a chance encounter at Court, Safi meets Prince Merik and makes him a reluctant ally. However, his help may not slow down the Bloodwitch now hot on the girls' heels. All Safi and Iseult want is their freedom, but danger lies ahead. With war coming, treaties breaking and a magical contagion sweeping the land, the friends will have to fight emperors and mercenaries alike. For some will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch." -- Goodreads

Will you like it?
If you like fantasy, yes.  If you like strong female characters, yes.  If you like unique world building, yes.  I truly was fascinated with this book.  Safi and Iseult are completely badass, and don't take shit from anyone.  I can't wait to read the next book.  With the ending that we had, I think some major things are going to be happening right away.  Also, I listened to the audiobook and I LOVED the accents that the narrator gave all of the characters.

Disclosure: I borrowed the audiobook from my local library from Overdrive.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Pursuit

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which shines a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.  This week, my pick is:

The Pursuit by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg
Publisher: Bantam
Date: June 21, 2016

From Goodreads: "Nicolas Fox, international con man, thief, and one of the top ten fugitives on the FBI’s most-wanted list, has been kidnapped from a beachfront retreat in Hawaii. What the kidnapper doesn’t know is that Nick Fox has been secretly working for the FBI. It isn’t long before Nick’s covert partner, Special Agent Kate O’Hare, is in hot pursuit of the crook who stole her con man.

The trail leads to Belgium, France, and Italy, and pits Nick and Kate against their deadliest adversary yet: Dragan Kovic, an ex–Serbian military officer. He’s plotting a crime that will net him billions . . . and cost thousands of American lives.

Nick and Kate have to mount the most daring, risky, and audacious con they’ve ever attempted to save a major U.S. city from a catastrophe of epic proportions. Luckily they have the help of an eccentric out-of-work actor, a bandit who does his best work in the sewers, and Kate’s dad, Jake. The pressure’s on for Nick and Kate to make this work—even if they have to lay their lives on the line."

I love this series.  I love the banter, the humor, and the cast of motley characters.  It's so entertaining to listen to in the car.  I can't wait for the next installment in this series.
